Civitavecchia is a coastal town northwest of Rome, in Italy. Built in the 2nd century, the Port of Civitavecchia still retains some of its original features, like the Roman Dock. The port area also includes the 16th-century Michelangelo Fort. Nearby, the National Archaeological Museum displays bronze and ceramic artifacts. Best Civitavecchia Area Beaches
This beach spreads out right in front of some beautiful buildings in Civitavecchia. The pebbly beach has an extraordinary square that emerges from the center of the sea and it can be reached by a marvelous wharf that begins at the beach.
Just down the seafront promenade, opposite the train station, you’ll find a golden sandy beach – the main Civitavecchia beach. The water is quite clear and is a great place for you to take a dip and escape the heat for the moment. On the beach near the fort, there is a carnival fair for kids.
Sant’Agostino beach (or Saint Augustine beach) is a 1.3 mile long sandy beach with shallow waters, which makes it possible to walk quite a bit out in the water. The vast area provides enough space to play football or volleyball, or to just to relax.
Santa Marinella is a long stretch of sand, including some free beach, and restaurants along the promenade. It’s a pretty beach but gets very crowded in July and August. Both Santa Marinella and Santa Severa are popular with wind-surfers and stand-up paddle boarders.
This beautiful stretch of coastline is just a 10 minute walk through fields and wildflowers. At the start of the beach lies the 11th-century Castello Santa Severa, so you can combine history with sunbathing.
