My great uncle spent 30 years in the Philippines as a missionary and he always loved it. Yes, that is the typhoon season, with September historically the worst. I prefer not to go during the rainy season either. Mindaneao Island, the Sulu Archipelago and Sulu Sea are not safe to travel to because of the terrorist groups. So you are not wrong, the whole far south of the Philippines should not be traveled to. Well, I think the Philippines are a much greater bargain then a lot of other beach destinations. Yes, prices will be a bit higher during the high season. You can chose a few hotels you like from my post and put in different dates, that will give you an idea of what the prices will be during that time.
