The Best of Los Roques – The pristine National Park Archipelago of Los Roques is north of Caracas and is the largest marine park in the Caribbean. In the middle of a dazzling azure Caribbean ocean rises 50 islands, each with virgin white beaches, turquoise lagoons and marvelous coral reefs. It is one of the most beautiful natural areas of Venezuela. Los Roques, an archipelago of small coral islands, offers deserted white, sandy beaches, snorkeling and scuba diving along numerous coral reefs, bird-watching and excellent fishing, including some of the world’s finest bone fishing, sailing, kayaking, windsurfing, and kite-surfing to make this an ideal location for the water-sports enthusiast and for those who like soaking up the sun in paradise.
Gran Roque is the only island with a village on it, and it has a selection of small, brightly colored posadas on its sandy streets, many of which offer both lodging and dining. Los Roques Archipelago, declared a National Park in 1972, is made up of 350 islands and atolls of white sand beaches, an ever-peaceful sea, year-round pleasant temperatures and waters so transparent and so rich in tonalities that they take your breath away. With its numerous protected cays and varied coral reefs, El Parque Nacional Archipielago Los Roques is also one of the best locales in the world for scuba diving, and there are several certified scuba diving services/instructors from which to choose. For windsurfing enthusiasts, the constant trade winds and the relatively shallow waters of many of the cays offer unrivaled conditions to practice the sport. Isla Los Roques Weather – When to Visit Los Roques
Temperatures vary little throughout the year, however, they are a bit lower from December to February, when daytime temperatures are around 84/86 °F, and higher from July to October, when they reach 88/90 °F. The dry season is the best time to visit Los Roques. Tourism picks up around September, when the rains start to fade, and then slows by April. December, January and February can get pretty busy as this is when many locals take holidays, enjoying the slightly cooler weather. The Caribbean coast it is equally dry all year round, so a vacation here can be good anytime, although look out for freak storm warnings.
Best Things to Do in Los Rosques
Cayo de Agua
Swim in the clear, warm waters at Cayo De Agua. The remote island boasts white sand beaches with clean blue waters, and a long sandbar that stretches far out into the ocean. Do exercise caution on the sandbar, however, since the tide can come in quickly and make it difficult to return to shore. Free from bars and hawkers, the area provides a nice break from overly popular tourist locations.
Cayo Madrisqui
White sandy expanses outline the shores of the island, where shallow waters make this attraction appropriate for families with children. If you prefer not to swim, try your luck at fly fishing, which is a popular sport on the island. Take a boat to one of the many dive spots and view the island from below the water. You’ll find restaurants on the island so you can plan for meals
Cayo Fabian
Head to Cayo Fabian for blissful relaxation on pristine white sand stretching to turquoise waters. Because of the lack of natural shade on the beach, consider bringing a sun umbrella and plenty of powerful sunscreen. Adrenaline junkies can try out kite boarding here, or opt for diving or snorkeling.
.
.
Cayo Crasqui
For a good range of outdoor activities, visit Crasqui, located within a national park. Most popular among the island’s attractions are its beaches, with a paradisal atmosphere and excellent coastal scenes of sand and sea. Practice your kayaking, sailing, and windsurfing skills, or head to one of the snorkeling and dive sites to explore the diversity of marine life in the waters that surround the island.
.
Noronky Beach
Despite its small size, Noronky Beach offers paradise-seekers a great deal to be pleased about. The white, sandy beach generally remains low-key and uncrowded thanks to its distance from Gran Roque. The lack of crowds allows the marine life to remain abundant, so if you bring your snorkeling gear, you can come face-to-face with countless tropical fish. If you’re lucky, you may even spot sea turtles gliding by. Take your own refreshments, as the area offers few food options.
Francisqui
Visit the small coral reef island of Francisqui and relax on its soft white sand. Swim and splash around in the crystal clear water, where you can walk for some distance before it gets deeper. Bathe or snorkel in the small natural pool in the middle of the island and enjoy the view of the ocean and surrounding islands. The island has a restaurant that sometimes serves lobsters fresh out of the sea, and an open-air bar where you can relax with a refreshing cocktail.
Best Los Roques Restaurants
El Canto de la Ballena $11 – 30
Right on the beach in the heart of the village, the ‘whale song’ is an excellent place for an evening meal. You’ll get a varied and innovative selection of local dishes ranging from octopus carpaccio to an almost cake-like savory corn bread and wonderful fresh fish. Reserve ahead. Telephone: 58-414-333-4092 Web: El Canto de la Ballena.
La Chuchera $11 – 30
Stick around long enough and La Chuchera is where you’ll meet most people on the island at some point. The food may not be cheap, but it’s cheap for Los Roques. The beloved pizzas are served after 4pm each day, but there’s a full and inventive menu to enjoy if you’re not at the beach for lunch: try the tuna tartar. Web: La Chuchera.
Aquarena Cafe $11 – 30
This beachside cafe amid billowing palms serves sushi, cooked fish, hamburgers, pizza and salads. It’s rather overpriced, but with gorgeous views like this, you might as well just put up with it and enjoy. Telephone: 58-414-131-1282 Web: Aquarena Café.
Bora La Mar $11 – 30
The chosen spot for sundown drinks and world-famous the island over for its piña coladas, Bora la Mar is a simple place run by a sweet Spanish woman. The kitchen needs to ease up on the salt a bit, but the food – just one choice per night, served on pleasant tables in the sand – is better than expected. Telephone: 58-414-325-7814 Web: Bora La Mar.

How would you feel about bringing a 6 yr old and 4 he old on a weeks vacation here?
I certainly would. Its a safe place to travel too, and if they love playing in the sand and the water, then they will have a blast. I know mine do 🙂 It is also great for some good quality family time. Plenty to do on the beach together. Take along some beach games or some beach toys and have some fun.
Is it still safe to travel to venezuela? How can I get a help at the aiport to go to los roques?
Yes it is most definitely safe to travel here. You are going to fly into Caracas-Maqueteia International Airport, where you will take a flight to Grand Roques. All of your flights you will want to arrange before your vacation. I would not try to arrange it at airport to get to Los Roques. Please let me know if I can answer any other questions for you. And of course, thank you for visiting Los Roques Travel.

Hey, thank you for such an in-depth post on Los Roques. I am actually heading to Caracas for a visit, and a friend said I should also visit Los Roques which I had never heard of. What a nice place to add to my itinerary! You have an abundance of information that is very helpful, even with the planning of my trip to Caracas. My trip is planned for February, so looks like it might be a little busy in Gran Roques, but so worth it. I am really interested in scuba diving there, and Angel Eco Tours looks like the company I will be contacting so that I can get that pre-arranged. I think that kayaking would be so wonderful too. You have given me some new ideas for my trip. I will be contacting you again once I am finalizing my plans. Thank you so much!
That is an ideal way to go….visit Caracas and then make a day tour…or two to the Los Roques Archipelago. The diving is top notch in the area, and you will find it to be amazing. Sounds like you have a lot of your trip pre-planned. And yes, you are more than welcome to contact me. I can help you get some great rates as well. Thanks for visiting Los Roques Travel!

I know, there are so many beautiful beach destinations. I guess once you have narrowed it down to where you would like to go, the Caribbean, the U.S., or what not. Let me know and maybe I can help you decide. I would love to help plan your dream vacation!
WOW! This place looks amazing. I love travel and am always on the lookout for awesome places to add to my list, and this one went on there straight away.
Surprisingly, it wasn’t because of the weather or beaches either. It was the ‘must do places’ that caught my eye.
Firstly, I love turtles and I went to a sanctuary in Cyprus once so I’d love that.
Secondly, Angel falls! I want to go and see that ASAP!
Great post!
Thank you Dale and yes, I agree that both the Turtle Sanctuary and Angel Falls are must sees and something that you would not miss while visiting Los Roques. I think the remoteness, the quietness, and the tranquil setting set is far apart from other Caribbean Islands. They do have a lot more than just gorgeous beaches for sure.
Awesome website! I love the vacation destinations, there’s a ton of them. I have been trying to find a Caribbean destination, and your site has all the information I need in one location. I have been reading about many of the different destinations, and Los Roques stands out to me as a unique beach destination that I would love to visit. Your website has all of that information has everything I need to start making my plans. Thank you!
Thank you so much. I am glad you have enjoyed visiting BeachTravelDestinations.com and I would love to help plan you trip to Los Roques. I can help you find the best deals on airline tickets and hotels. Just shoot me an email to let me know the particulars. Thanks for visiting Los Roques Travel.
This sounds like such an amazing place to visit. There is so much natural beauty. Visiting Angel Falls sounds like such a fun adventure and I like your suggestion of booking a tour to get there. It seems like you would be able to enjoy Caracas and Los Roque on the same trip, if you are visiting from outside of the country.
I am wondering how long of a flight it would be if I am visiting Caracas and want to fly to Los Roques for a few days?
I agree that Angel Falls is an amazing site to see. I know that you would enjoy the uniqueness of the Los Roques Archipelago with all the amazing islands. It is going to be about a 9 1/2 hour flight from Caracas to Los Roques. So depending on how much time you are taking for your vacation, that can determine for you if you want to spend time on both Caracas and in the Los Roques Archipelago. So much to see! Thanks for visiting Los Roques Travel.
My family is spread over the four corners of the world. So we don’t see each other much, and we were thinking of organizing a nice family trip. The Los Roques islands looks fantastic, and I discuss this perfect beach getaway with my brother and sister, and show them just what a perfect it would be for us! I am sure they will love it!
Just a question, please. When is the best time to get the best deals?
Thank you very much!
September to Aril is their tourism season, so anytime off season is going to get you and your family better deals. I think you would all have a fantastic time in the Los Roques Islands. Thanks for reading!
You have given a detailed explanations on travel and its usefulness. Los Roques is an amazing sounding place. I have been looking for a vacation spot in the Caribbean, and you have given me so many choices, not just with Los Roques. I see that you have also traveled most parts of the United States. I am looking forward to looking thru your website at all the beautiful destinations, and then deciding on my next vacation. If you had to pick a spot in the Caribbean for your next vacation, which one would you pick?
Thank you so much and I am glad you have enjoyed reading BeachTravelDestinations.com and all about Los Roques Travel. If I had to pick a destination, boy that is a tough decision. I guess living in the hurricane belt myself, I am going to want to go somewhere that I can leave that worry behind, because that is the time I am going to want to travel. I would really love to go to Aruba for many reasons, and am already planning that trip!
Great recommended locations. I’m actually from Califormia, so I was particularly interested in the beaches there. But, after seeing Los Roques and looking thru all of the beaches, the things to do and the places to see. I have now decided that I need to broaden my scope and plan a trip to the Caribbean. Will it be a long flight from California?
The pictures on your website are absolutely gorgeous. It makes me realize it is time to take a vacation. Thanks!
If you are going to head to Los Roques which is part of Venezuela, then the trip will be about 8 hours to get you to Venezuela. From there you can visit numerous Caribbean islands. I guarantee you that the experience will be well worth it. California beaches are awesome, but nothing compares to the islands in the Caribbean 🙂
Ohhh this really makes me want to take a vacation on the beach right now. Love your website, lots of great pictures. Can absolutely plan your whole vacation through your website. I especially like all the things you can do and the best gear to bring with you. Definitely saving this for when I need my next vacation.
Great Andrea, I am glad you enjoyed visiting BeachTravelDestinations.com. Look forward to having you back when you start planning!
