Broome is a historical pearling town situated in the Kimberley region in Western Australia. It is a well developed tourist destination, popular with Australians, in the dry season (from May to September). In the dry months the weather is ideal. It has sunny days with temperatures around 86°F and balmy evenings and nights when the temperature fall to the low 70s. The town is situated on the Indian Ocean and the main beach, Cable Beach, is a beautiful expanse of golden sand. The sunsets on Cable Beach are magnificent and can be enjoyed on the beach or from one of the restaurants on the esplanade. The population of the town expands from about 12,000 in the wet to a high of about 30,000 at the height of the tourist season. The camping grounds are booked out pretty early and accommodation can be hard to find at the height of the season. Vacationing to Broome? Reddell Beach
Reddell Beach is a favorite beach among the Broome locals, with the stark contrasts of red pindan bordering the white sandy beach. Examine the unusual rock formations with their intricate erosion patterns along the pristine stretch of beach. The calm refreshing waters are ideal for swimming or paddling with the children, and the lack of crowds makes this well kept secret spot an idyllic location. Enjoy a picnic lunch or just laze about on the beach and soak up the sun. If you time your visit at high tide, you may be fortunate to witness a spectacular phenomenon when the ocean meets the pindan cliffs and the ochre color bleeds into the normally crystal blue waters.
Town Beach
This pretty little beach is located a few minutes’ drive from the center of the historic pearling town and overlooks the stunning turquoise colored Roebuck Bay. Its spectacular calm aqua water makes for perfect photo opportunities. Bring your own picnic and spread out on the grass or on one of the picnic tables or enjoy dishes from the café near the water’s edge. A bonus for parents is the small water playground, ideal for the children to cool down. There is also a cafe along the water’s edge. There is also a caravan park located beside Town Beach with one of the best views in Broome across Roebuck Bay. Town Beach is also a popular gathering point to see the natural attraction of the Staircase to the Moon on certain dates throughout the year. The moon rises above the exposed mudflats creating an optical illusion in the darkened sky of stairs reaching to the moon. The Town Beach Markets often complement this event and provide an opportunity for you to purchase craft items, dinner from the stalls and relax and enjoy the entertainment.
Cable Beach
With its 14 miles of more soft white sand than you can imagine, Cable Beach is the main reason visitors are drawn to Broome. The water is warm and flat, with gentle, ankle-height waves the only disturbance to the expanse of horizon-hugging blue. Its name harks back to 1889, when a long undersea telegraph cable connected northwest Australia to Indonesia, opening up communication to the world. This beach is famous for sunset camel rides, and watching the sun descend over the water.
Gantheaume Point Beach
Gantheaume Point encompasses a stretch of white sandy beach as well as a red rock cliff face overlooking the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean, about a ten minute drive from the town centre of Broome. The Gantheaume Point beach area adjoins Cable Beach and is a popular meeting place on the weekend for locals to gather with family and friends. Please note that lifeguards do not patrol Gantheaume Point. The spectacular views from the cliff section of Gantheaume Point is reached by a short stretch of unsealed road. There you will find parking and an interpretive signage center which showcases the history of the area.
Entrance Point
Near Broome Port and the Broome Fishing Club you will find Entrance Point. This beach is utilized by boaties for fishing trips and catching mud crab. The beach has some interesting rock formations and is a popular location for weddings. Don’t miss Entrance Point beach for it’s massive rock formations carved by strong winds which are scattered all over this beach near the port of Broome.
Roeback Bay
Stretching from Broome south towards Cape Villaret past Eco Beach, Roebuck Bay is remarkable for the diversity of its marine and plant life as well as its extremely large tidal range. Roebuck Bay is one of the best places in Australia to view migratory birds.
Eighty Mile Beach Marine Park
Eighty Mile is the longest uninterrupted beach in Western Australia, extending for almost 137 miles. It’s a haven for anglers, shell collectors, beach fossickers and a great camping area. Thousands of migratory birds flock here on their annual migration. It’s also an important turtle nesting site.
My goodness, Leahrae, what wonderful places to visit. The only concern I would have about travelling to Australia is the weather – a tad too hot for my likings. But, when you mention temperatures varying in the region of the 30C, you also mentions some parts of the Broome beaches as hit by the winds, and this reassures me.
No plan for a Aussie holiday of a lifetime yet, Leahrae, but surely when I persuade my husband, we shall take some good advise from you! Thank you for, once again, making me dream 🙂
You are welcome 🙂 It is always nice to dream, as that leads to thoughts and then plans 🙂 Yes, the winds cool it down a bit and it is not hot all year round. If you go off season when it is a bit cooler, you will love it! Thanks for visiting Broome Australia Beaches!
I’m an Aussie but I’ve never been to Broome. I’ve actually never been over to the west anywhere. I should do it at some stage.
There really looks like a diverse range of beaches in the Broome area. I’d love to photograph them, especially the rocky ones. And Kings Cascade looks awesome.
Thanks for sharing this. Great idea for a website, by the way.
Oh yes Darren, a lot of the beaches are great for photographs. You really do need to get out and visit Broome. Australia is a fairly good size country with a lot of gorgeous coastline. Thanks for reading about Broome Australia Beaches.
I have been talking about going to Australia to visit. The beaches are so beautiful. I would love to visit town beach. It seems ideal for a family vacation. Do they happen to have a well known zoo in Broome? It seems like everything is basically done outdoors which is fabulous.
Yes, Town Beach is perfect for families. They do have a bird park, 12 mile bird park. I don’t know of any zoo. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks for reading about Broome Australia Beaches.
Absolutely beautiful. Reddell looks to be my favorite, but I love them all. So different from the beaches in Florida!
Yes, they are different than the beaches in Florida! But so beautiful, and the culture and food is what makes it unique. Thanks for visiting!
I done some travelling in Australia a few years ago with my family and really enjoyed it. Starting in Sydney, then Cairns, Hamilton Island and then a few days in the Northern Territory (Ularu). Unfortunately didn’t visit Broome, but I’ve heard that the beaches are awesome there and will try and visit when I go back.
Thanks for your post, I enjoyed reading it and was full of useful information.
Broome beaches are awesome! If you go, don’t miss Cable Beach and Entrance Beach. Both definitely worth visiting! Thanks for visiting BeachTravelDestinations.com.
Hi Leahrae,
I was immediately attracted to your post as my girlfriend and I absolutely love beaches.
We travel extensively, but have never yet made it to Australia, but your article has inspired us to include it in our plans.
the beaches look very amazing, especially Entrance Point. It looks really romantic.
Out of all the beaches, you feature, which is your favorite?
Love the photos!
Tim
Thank you for visiting Broome Australia Beaches! I would have to say, hands down, it is Cable Beach. You won’t find a more beautiful beach. Do the camel ride on the beach, spectacular! Entrance Beach is another gorgeous beach in Broome. Glad you enjoyed your digital vacation of Broome Beaches!
Hi, Leahrae,
You write such a kind story-teller! While I was reading, I mentally moved to this beautiful piece of land in Australia!
I am interested in going there. I am with small kids, and I would like to ask you for advice which beach would you recommend more for being with kids – Reddell or Town beach?
Boy, you know that is a toss up. Both Reddell and Town beach are great for children. One having a park, the other have the calm water. I guess it depends on what they like to do. Mine are drawn to the water and loe to build sand castles and play in the water. So for me, Reddell is the better choice. I am glad you enjoyed reading! Thanks for visiting Broome Australia beaches.
I love the beach. Great tips and great pictures. It would be great to find a beach that isn’t crowded. I’ve never ridden a camel. That would be really cool. What’s an unsealed road? I’d love to see the turtles. Seems like you really know your stuff. If I ever make it to Australia I’ll be back to check out this site. It’s on my bucket list.
Unsealed roads are accessible by vehicles where the routes can be beaches, sand, tracks, fields, paddocks and etc. I love to see the turtles, they are so awesome. Thank you so much for visiting Broome Australia Beaches.
How stunning! Makes me want to get up and go there now. I’m a camper, and beach camping is amazing! Seeing turtles lay and hatch is definitely a bonus too!
Great selection of options here too. You know, I’ve never heard of camel riding on a beach, sounds exotic and exciting!
I have not done Camel riding either, but it does sound like a lot of fun!
I’ve never been to Australia. I’m actually on the other side of the world, in Canada, so it’s very interesting to learn about different vacation destinations, specially the beach. We don’t get to visit a lot of them here. Lol.. And talk about the winter. Sometimes i do really want to get away. WIll definitely consider some of your suggestions. Thanks for sharing!!
Rey
Yeah, I know how you feel. I lived in Alaska for 22 years! I got tired of the winter. Love the sunshine and the beach 🙂
Nice website with helpful links. My daughter is going to Australia this week so I would be happy to sent her to your website as I believe she will find many helpful information. It is her first time. The website is very well organized and easy to find answers to most of the questions when going on vacation.
Thank you so much Radka! I hope she has a wonderful time!
This is suh a wonderful website full of information about beaches and travel. Very nice images that makes you want to go.
Have have found a grammar “When are the cheapest days to fly” you could say “The cheapest days to fly” to capture visitor attention. Getting good comments and always responsive. May I suggest putting car hire page. and also write a article on essential items to take with you when traveling and lead the page to products they need e.g suitcase and make a sale. But overall one of the best sites I have come across I have looked at it as a learning curve for myself.
Thank you so much for the suggestions and comments! I do have a page with products 🙂 Have not included luggage yet though. Thanks!
That looks like my kind of beach. Fabulous scenery, endless open space and good climate. I just wish I was there now. Sadly, until I win the lottery or rob a bank I have to put up with English weather and a pebble beach. Thanks for the sunny pictures, it brightens up an English summer.
You are welcome Pete! Yes, I’d love to win the lottery too so I could visit them all!
The unusual rock formations of Reddell Beach are intriguing and would make anyone want to go there tomorrow! I have longed to visit Australia ever since watching Kangaroo Jack as a wee lad. Cable Beach also seems very interesting since you say it is one of the most popular beaches in Australia. Are all of these beaches listed located in Broome?
Yes, they are all in the Broome area. I like crowded beaches, I like to people watch. Interesting you do too. A lot of people do not. Cable Beach would be my first pick in Broome.
WooooW! What a scenery! I cannot even imagine to travel to some of these parts of this world. Maybe my wishes will come true sometimes. And I always wanted to see turtles nesting or hatching… 🙂 Is this possible or is it forbidden to disturb the turtles?
You do have great nature in Australia!
Yes, definitely do not disturb the turtles 🙂 Thanks for visiting !
