Salerno Travel Guide

Salerno Italy may initially seem like a bland big city, but the place has a charming individuality, especially around its historic center where medieval churches and neighborhood trattorias bustle with activity. This historic city center features a tree-lined seafront promenade widely considered to be one of the cheeriest and most attractive in Italy. In Salerno you will find a variety of landscapes and natural realities, rich in history. Today the city of Salerno offers its visitors a mild climate for most of the year and it’s known for the excellent cuisine.

Salerno Weather – When to Visit

Without a doubt the best time to visit Salerno is from April to June, when the spring flowers are in bloom, the weather is just warm enough, and the temperature of the Mediterranean allows for the first dips of the season.
By choosing late spring or early summer, you can also avoid the tourist crush of July and August and the oppressive temperatures later in the year. The tourist season officially begins at Easter and runs through the month of September, but during May and June prices are generally lower than during July and August.

If you love local festivals and nightlife, remember that most events take place on the coast during the months of July and August. The calendar of concerts and festivals is busy during these two months, which is also when most of the international jet-set anchor their yachts off the Amalfi Coast and can be seen in the most glamorous restaurants and clubs onshore, including “Music On the Rocks” in Positano and “Africana” in Praiano.

I enjoyed reading your Salerno travel guide. One of my dear friend comes from Salerno and it’s because of her I know this peace of heaven on earth. Cavallo Morto is my favorite beach, a perfect spot to spend the day enjoying the sun with friends and family. You named some nice restaurants and bars – at the end of the day, eating good and drinking fine wine is not a problem in Salerno or in Italy 🙂

A very interesting and informative holiday guide to Salerno where you can enjoy a wonderful time in the sun.

Obviously the best time to visit will be May and June when the prices are lowest, and you can get a good deal for your money.

The five beaches offer clean sand and pebble beaches, and beautiful views, you have a choice of La Bahia beach which is good for families with children, La Crespella or Calla Bianca beaches which are quieter and more exclusive,

Of course there are six excellent tours, where you can see the Emerald grotto sea cave,or wine tasting at a traditional winery and vineyard, and visit several small villages around the area.

Also you have the choice of five good restaurants, and five interesting bars, where you can enjoy good Italian food,as well as a choice of local and international liquors.

My girlfriend goes to Italy with her sister every other year. She has a big birthday coming up this year and as she hasn’t already booked it yet, I thought I would sort it out for her as part of her gift.

Are there any music or food festivals that you can recommend, as I think booking to coincide with those would be the best option for them to get the most out of the visit.

You have no idea how much I was needing an article like this!  My wife and me have been wanting to travel to Italy with our two kids for a short vacation, and we were actually planning on going sometime in Feburary.  Do you have any suggestions on a good place to go that is family friendly during that time of the year?

Oh sounds wonderful!  For the family definitely do the Museo Virtuale della Scuola Medica Salernitana, an interactive museum dedicated to medieval medicine. and head to the Giffoni Film Festival – Europe’s biggest children’s film festival.  The festival is however, in July.  Another place that would be interesting for the whole family is Castellabate.  Castellabate is a medieval town lying close to Salerno that is famous for its turquoise waters and beautiful historic architecture. It is divided into three areas; Castellabate medieval center, Santa Maria and Santa Marco.  Take them to the Castello Di Arechi Castle.  This medieval fortress will be interesting for the whole family.  Please let me know if I can send you any additional information.

Thank you for detailed post, I was looking for something like this.. Why I am interested in this is those “wild beaches” I like.. I don’t like crowded places so it’s always better to go to a beach that isn’t easy approachable.. Cala Bianca Beach seems to be the right for me… but I was wondering, is mid of september good time to come to that place? And since my budget is limited, I’ll have to choose some airbnb apartment instead of hotels.. But great information and overview, you cleared my mind 🙂
