The Best Beach Bags for Style and Function

When it comes to packing for a beach day, the best beach bags do more than hold your essentials. They also keep everything organized, protect your items from sand and sun, as well as add a touch of style to your seaside look. Below, you’ll find our top picks for chic and practical best beach bags for this season.

Bogg Original Bogg Bag – Best for Easy Cleaning

The Bogg Original Bogg Bag is a favorite for families who need space, structure, and easy cleaning. Unlike floppy totes, this bag stands upright thanks to its broad base, so you won’t have to dig endlessly for your sunscreen. Its wide opening keeps everything within reach, and the included inserts help you organize valuables, in addition to keep clothing dry.

Why We Like It

  • EVA material wipes clean of dirt, sand, and spills
  • Spacious enough for towels, snacks, and drinks
  • Fun colors and limited-edition prints for added style

What to Consider

  • The holes make it less splash-proof
  • Bulky design doesn’t collapse for packing
  • Straps can slip off shoulders, though they carry well by hand

Verdict: All in all, the Bogg Bag earns its place among the best beach bags for its roomy design and practicality. In addition, it’s perfect for long beach days with kids or group outings where space and durability matter most. Finally, the easy-to-clean build makes it a low-maintenance option you’ll reach for again and again.

Fit + Fresh All The Things Bag – Best for Packing Gear for a Crowd

The Fit + Fresh All The Things Bag lives up to its name. With massive capacity and the ability to carry up to 50 pounds, it’s one of the best beach bags for families or groups. You can easily haul towels, snacks, toys, and more—though its oversized size may feel bulky if you’re not packing for a crowd.

Why We Like It

  • Designed by women and based in the U.S.
  • Two sets of handles for flexible carrying styles
  • Water-resistant liner protects gear from splashes

What to Consider

  • Extra-long shoulder straps may slip off easily
  • Deep size can bump against your legs as you walk
  • Interior pockets have loose elastic and don’t hold items upright unless stuffed

Verdict: Ultimately, the Fit + Fresh All The Things Bag is a powerhouse option. Thus, it’s reliable, sturdy, as well as designed with versatility in mind. If you’re the one carrying gear for kids, friends, or an all-day outing, this bag helps you stay prepared without sacrificing comfort or durability.

LEDAOU Beach Bag – Best for Quick-Grab Gear

The LEDAOU Beach Bag is a budget-friendly option that doesn’t skimp on features. For under $25, it offers impressive organization and plenty of space. The wide base keeps it upright, and the zip-top closure ensures your essentials stay secure. It also comes with multiple pockets inside and out, making it one of the best beach bags for travelers who like everything within easy reach.

Why We Like It

  • Multiple pockets for water bottles, phones, sandals, or snacks
  • Large waterproof pocket to separate wet swimsuits or keep clothes dry
  • Comfortable straps for carrying on bare shoulders
  • Affordable price with optional extras

What to Consider

  • Fabric doesn’t repel water—it absorbs instead of beading off
  • Can feel heavy if overpacked

Verdict: If you want a practical, organized, and budget-conscious option, the LEDAOU Beach Bag delivers. It’s lightweight, versatile, and ideal for everyday seaside adventures.

Becokan Beach Bag – Best for Keeping Sand Off Your Gear

The Becokan Beach Bag has that classic coastal look—canvas fabric, nautical stripes or tropical prints, and rope straps. However, it’s more than just stylish. The treated material repels both moisture and sand, and it passed our splash test with ease. In fact, even after sitting in a puddle, the inside stayed dry, and the exterior wiped clean quickly. As a result, it’s one of the best beach bags for protecting your essentials from the unexpected.

Moreover, this roomy tote easily fits towels, snacks, and extras, while still zipping closed to keep everything secure. In addition, external bottle pockets and a quick-access interior pocket make it practical, too. On the other hand, the rope straps, while dependable, can dig into your shoulders during long walks.

Why We Like It

  • Treated canvas repels moisture and sand
  • Spacious interior with secure zip closure
  • Lightweight and collapsible for packing
  • Stylish nautical and tropical designs

What to Consider

  • Rope straps may irritate bare skin on longer treks
  • Taller bags may drag when carried by hand

Verdict: The Becokan Beach Bag blends classic beach style with function. Therefore, if you want a lightweight, sand-resistant tote with plenty of space, this is a reliable go-to.

J.Crew Como Woven Straw Tote – Best for Pool Days at a Resort

When picturing the best beach bags for a Caribbean getaway, the J.Crew Como Woven Straw Tote is exactly what comes to mind. After all, its woven straw design instantly evokes poolside vibes, sandy beaches, and tropical drinks. Although it lacks the extra functionality of more practical totes, it delivers on effortless resort style.

The wide, round base makes packing easy, and it holds enough gear for two travelers. However, because there’s no closure, you’ll want to pack carefully—placing smaller items at the bottom and towels on top to keep everything in place. Fortunately, the thin leather straps are comfortable and stay on your shoulder, making it easy to carry. The straw feels slightly scratchy, but it doesn’t irritate bare skin unless you’re wearing something very light.

On the downside, this bag fails the splash test. The woven material allows water to seep through, and the straw takes time to dry. For that reason, it’s best suited for calm pool days or resort lounging rather than wave-heavy beach trips.

Why We Like It

  • Chic woven straw aesthetic perfect for resorts
  • Comfortable leather straps that stay in place
  • Stands upright when empty or full

What You Should Know

  • No closure, so gear may fall out if tipped
  • Not water-resistant; better for dry, splash-free settings

Verdict: The J.Crew Como Tote shines as one of the best beach bags for resort and poolside relaxation. So, if your priority is style over splash-proof function, this is the tote that completes your tropical look.

HOXIS Mesh Beach Tote – Best for Budget Travelers

If you want one of the best beach bags without spending much, the HOXIS Mesh Beach Tote is a solid choice. It’s super lightweight, and the mesh fabric dries quickly while shedding sand with ease. On the downside, it doesn’t pass the splash test. However, the thick bottom liner helps protect your gear from damp sand or wet pool chairs. Water beads up on that part, which is helpful if you grab a spot before everything dries in the morning.

In terms of packing, this tote holds plenty, but its floppy shape makes it tricky to organize. For instance, water bottles tend to tip over, and everything slides toward the center as you carry it. Even so, the shoulder straps feel surprisingly comfortable and stay in place while walking. Moreover, the wide strap design means you won’t have to constantly adjust it during your walk from the car to the sand.

Why We Like It

  • Available in a wide range of bright, fun colors
  • Lightweight and easy to tuck into a suitcase or travel backpack

What You Should Know

  • Use pouches to keep smaller items secure
  • Its unstructured sides make packing a little challenging

Verdict: Overall, the HOXIS Mesh Beach Tote is one of the best beach bags for travelers on a budget. It may not win points for structure or water resistance, but it shines with its lightweight build, quick-drying mesh, and affordable price. If you want something simple, colorful, and easy to carry, this tote will get the job done without weighing you down.

L.L.Bean Boat and Tote (Open Top) Best for Versatility

Whether you’re heading out for a day on the pontoon or relaxing on the sand, a sturdy canvas tote is always reliable. The L.L.Bean Boat and Tote is a classic choice, thanks to its adaptable design and durable build. It works year-round, not just on vacation, and we fit everything needed for two travelers in the medium size. For families or heavy packers, the large size is even better. We also like the carry options: short handles work well by hand, while the longer straps make it easy to sling over your shoulder.

In terms of durability, this tote stands out. The extra-thick canvas feels rugged, and water beads right off when splashed. Even when it sat briefly in a puddle, nothing inside got damp, though it’s worth remembering the bag isn’t fully waterproof.

Why We Like It

  • Comes in sizes from 8L small to 56L extra-large
  • Customizable with accent colors and monogramming
  • Comfortable carry options with short or long handles

What You Should Know

  • This version has an open top, but a zip-top is available
  • Long handles are more practical for carrying on the shoulder

Verdict
The L.L.Bean Boat and Tote earns its reputation as one of the best beach bags for travelers who want something practical, timeless, and versatile. It’s simple, durable, and stylish enough to transition from the beach to everyday errands with ease.

Pack Smart with the Best Beach Bags

In conclusion, the best beach bags combine style, comfort, and durability to keep your beach days stress-free. Not only do they hold all your essentials, but they also help you stay organized and prepared. Moreover, many options now include waterproof linings, sand-resistant fabrics, and versatile designs that make them useful long after summer ends.

With that in mind, think about your priorities. Do you need a roomy tote for family trips, or would a smaller, structured bag better fit solo adventures? In addition, consider features like extra pockets, comfortable straps, or easy-to-clean materials to make your choice even smarter.

Finally, investing in the right bag pays off in the long run. A high-quality beach bag saves time, prevents frustration, and adds convenience to every trip. As a result, you’ll spend less time digging for items and more time enjoying the waves, sunshine, and memories. Ultimately, the best beach bags help you show up in style while keeping everything you need right at your fingertips.

FAQs: Best Beach Bags

What makes a beach bag different from a regular tote?
Beach bags are designed for outdoor conditions. For instance, many feature waterproof linings, sand-resistant fabrics, and sturdy bases. In addition, they often come with multiple pockets to keep wet and dry items separate.

Which material is best for beach bags?
That depends on your needs. Cotton canvas offers durability and structure, while EVA and mesh are lightweight and easy to clean. Moreover, microfiber and waterproof coatings provide quick-dry convenience.

How big should a beach bag be?
Size depends on how much you typically carry. If you’re packing for kids or a group, a large-capacity tote is ideal. However, for solo trips or poolside lounging, a medium or small option will feel easier to manage.

Are beach bags waterproof?
Not all of them, but many come with splash-proof liners or water-resistant coatings. Therefore, if you expect to carry wet swimsuits or sit near the surf, choose a style with waterproof compartments.

Can I use my beach bag for travel?
Absolutely! In fact, many of the best beach bags double as carry-ons or day bags. They’re especially handy because their roomy interiors and lightweight materials make them versatile beyond the shore.

So glad the guide helped—finding the right balance between space, comfort, and style can definitely be a challenge! For longer walks, a lightweight soft-sided tote like the LEDAOU or HOXIS Mesh is usually more comfortable because it moves with you and doesn’t bump your leg. If sand-resistance is your top concern, the Becokan Beach Bag is the best beach bag for keeping sand out thanks to its treated canvas exterior. The Bogg Bag is great for families, but structured styles feel heavier over distance. If you tell me how many towels and extras you usually pack, I can recommend the best beach bag size and material for your beach travel essentials.

Great question—both are solid choices, but the L.L.Bean Boat and Tote is definitely the most versatile because it transitions from beach days to errands and travel. It’s one of the best beach bags for durability and everyday use, and the thick canvas repels splashes surprisingly well, though it’s not fully waterproof. The Fit + Fresh All The Things Bag is ideal when you need maximum capacity, especially with kids, beach toys, and snacks. If you want one bag that handles boating, pool days, and summer outings, the L.L.Bean tote is the better all-around pick. Let me know if you prefer shoulder-length straps or hand carry—I can recommend the best size!

So happy this helped! The HOXIS Mesh Beach Tote is one of the best beach bags for travelers because it packs flat and dries quickly, but you’re right—it has a more casual vibe. If you want something that works for both travel and resort settings, the J.Crew Como Woven Straw Tote is the best stylish option, and it still packs easily for vacations. It’s perfect for pool decks, beach bars, and coastal outfits. For practicality, pair it with small waterproof pouches so you still stay organized and splash-protected. If you tell me your destination, I can suggest the best beach bag style based on weather, walking distance, and how fancy the resort scene is.

So glad you enjoyed the guide! You’re right — it’s a tricky balance between structure and portability. If you’re taking frequent weekend beach trips, the Bogg Bag is fantastic since it stands upright, wipes clean, and keeps gear sand-free. But if you travel often or want something you can fold and pack in a suitcase, the L.L.Bean Tote wins for versatility. It’s durable, classic, and easy to use year-round. Some travelers even pack the foldable HOXIS Mesh Tote inside their luggage for lightweight trips. Would you say you’re more of a minimalist packer, or do you like bringing “everything but the kitchen sink” for your beach days?

I love this roundup of beach bags—super helpful! I’ve been debating between something stylish like a straw tote and something more practical that’s easy to clean. The Bogg Bag sounds amazing for family days, but I’m also tempted by the J.Crew straw tote for resort trips. Do you think it’s worth owning more than one type of beach bag depending on the occasion?

Thank you! I’m so glad you found the guide helpful. Honestly, I think it depends on how often you go to the beach or pool. For family days or longer outings, a practical option like the Bogg Bag really makes life easier—it’s sturdy, roomy, and wipes clean in seconds. But for a resort trip or a more relaxed day, a straw tote adds that effortless vacation style and is perfect when you don’t need to carry as much. I personally like having one ‘workhorse’ beach bag for gear-heavy days and one chic bag for lighter outings. Do you usually take full-day trips to the beach, or are your outings more about quick dips and lounging?

Wow! I didn’t even think about it keeping the sand out! That’ll work great. I hate it when sand gets in my sun glass case, and blue tooth speaker! Such a mess! I’ll be planning my beach trip soon and will add this to my list of things I need. I love that it has a Waterproof Cell Phone Case and “easy to get” to outside pockets!

I was going to mention the SeaWag. Me and my son both have one, they keep the sand and water out. BUT they also allow us to carry cash or a debit card, and our ID with us. We don’t have to worry about someone swiping it off the beach, because we just keep it with us in the water. It works, I can tell you that. Some other brands claim to, but they don’t.

Hi Leahrae, thanks for showing us some lovely beach bags here. I really like to have a bag that has plenty room as well as having an inside pocket where you can hide things away from wet towels or leaking bottles of sun tan lotion. I am not saying that these things happen but it is better being safe than sorry. The bag also has to be a decent size to get everything in but still be able to get the bag shut.

There were two or three that you showed us that I really liked and will go on the links and get a better view at these bags.

Very informative Website. I love the beach bags!  I also checked out your kiteboarding post.  I’ve never heard of Kiteboarding. I have done some Parasailing in the Bahamas a while back, but that’s all. The pictures and videos were amazing, as well as the music. I live in the Movaji Desert. Really not near much water. But if I do get near the ocean or a big lake, I will keep your Website in mind and tell others about it. Great Job!

I like the aruba mesh. But what do you think about pacsafe gear? The bags are great, but there’s still the problem of someone just picking up the bag and leaving….

    1. Leahrae (Post author)

Pacsafe gear is great, but I am not sure how they would work on the beach. I keep all of my beach stuff in my bag. And I carry my credit cards, id and phone in my Seawag (waterproof). So when I am in the water, or walking down the beach, I have all my “valuables” with me. My beach bag is only going to have my sunscreen, chapstick, etc. Nothing I can’t replace 🙂 Thanks for visiting 🙂

Being a mother, trips to the beach require a bag with a lot of space. I like the Aruba mesh bag because of the pockets with the top zipper and of course the cooler feature. That bag would be a perfect fit for trips to the beach and carrying everything you need. I would even use it for trips to the park. Great list!

I love those beach bags and can think of any number of uses for them apart from the beach. The cooler bag would be great in summer to put you frozen foods in when you are shopping so they don’t defrost on the way home. It would also be great for cold drinks when traveling. I love the photos you have used are beautiful and appealing. The bag really comes into it’s own as a beach bag and as you say it makes it a lot easier to carry everything you need.

I for one have just recently discovered the awesomeness that cooler bags are, ever since I started driving for Uber. I keep cold drinks for my riders in the cooler bags, as they are easy to store in the trunk or the inside of the car. I’m always looking for stylish ones, so I’ll keep these in mind. I rarely do the beach, so for just riding around, these will do.

I travel to beaches a lot (some fresh water and some salt water beaches) and I can’t stand it when I have to tug along the cooler and my beach bag.

Since we usually don’t stay longer than two or three hours, this seems like the perfect solution for my food and convenience needs.
