Visit Beautiful Nuremberg

Visit Beautiful Nuremberg – Nuremberg will charm you from the moment you set eyes on the iconic red roofs of its Altstadt (Old Town). The city is home to a centuries-old tradition for baking delectable sweets and a thriving local food scene for you to sample as you explore. Nuremberg has played a key role in Germany’s history, and today emerges as a vibrant modern city.

Nuremberg is Bavaria’s second-largest city and is an energetic place where the nightlife is intense and the beer is as dark as coffee. As one of Bavaria’s biggest draws it is alive with visitors year-round, but especially during the spectacular Christmas market.

Nuremberg’s most famous annual event is the Christkindlesmarkt, perhaps the world’s most famous Christmas market, which animates the Hauptmarkt from the end of November until Christmas Eve, with 180 wooden stalls selling everything from Lebkuchen to Christmas decorations and traditional wooden toys.

Slim, char-grilled Nürnberger Bratwürste is Nuremberg’s savory specialty, and though the little sausages are served in high style in quite fancy restaurants, they’re never more delicious than when eaten hot from a street stall Drei im Weckla (three in a bun). More substantial savory dishes are often served with Nürnberger Klösse (potato dumplings), which are good fuel on a wintery day and excellent for soaking up meaty sauces. You can buy Nuremberg’s famous sweetly-spiced Lebkuchen gingerbread – originally a Christmas treat, but now available all year around. The city is a foodies’ haven, from the dark-hued traditional Bavarian beers, juicy sausages, and sauerkraut, to high-end fusion fine dining. Cruising through Nuremberg? Nuremberg Weather – Best Time to Visit Nuremberg

Nuremberg’s climate is continental, meaning winters are often freezing and summers are light-filled and warm. Visitors should be prepared for quick weather changes from sun to rain to hail. Rain is actually common throughout the year with the highest levels of precipitation in summer.

Medieval Nuremberg is a popular stop for visitors to Germany with its charming castle and Altstadt. History buffs also make a stop in Nuremberg for its Third Reich party grounds and infamous courtrooms. These attractions bring millions of visitors to Bavaria’s second largest city each year and it is popular throughout the year.

While there is no bad time to visit, the very best time to see Nuremberg is in December when the Christmas spirit has completely consumed the city. Its Weihnachtsmärkte (Christmas markets) are some of the best in the country and there is nowhere like Germany at Christmas. If you prefer to avoid the cold or aren’t feeling the Christmas cheer, summer is probably a better option.

Summers are warm with daylight lasting until 10 p.m. Everyone makes time to be outside and the temperatures are pleasant between 65°F to 76°F. Occasionally temperatures will peak at 90 to 100°F which can feel even hotter with the lack of air conditioning. This is the time of year to bring a swimsuit, and an umbrella as rainstorms are still common.

If you’ve ever wondered where the infamous B&W images of ecstatic Nazi supporters hailing their Führer were taken, it was here in Nuremberg. Much of the grounds were destroyed during Allied bombing raids, but enough remain to get a sense of the megalomania behind it, especially after visiting the excellent Dokumentationszentrum (Documentation Center). Best 5 Nuremberg Restaurants

Bratwurst Röslein $11 – 20

Bratwurst Röslein is the self-proclaimed largest bratwurst restaurant in the world. They serve Franconian fare in cozy, albeit enormous setting. Think: original Nuremberg bratwurst, Franconian schäufele (pork shoulder), and crispy duck. You can even try all of the above by ordering their Franconian cuisine set. Telephone: 49 911 214860 Web: Bratwurst Röslein

Brezen Kolb $10 & Under

This is not a restaurant, mind you, but a small local chain of cafes and food stands around the city whose specialty is pretzels. Given that pretzels have firm roots in the region of Franconia (of which Nuremberg is the capital), it is a must-try here. And the best ones come from Brezen Kolb. The only ingredients used to make pretzels are wheat flour, water, sea salt, yeast and malt. No butter or lard. Telephone: 49 1511 7131213 Web: Brezen Kolb

Behringer’s Bratwursthäusle $11 – 30

These guys have been grilling Nuremberg rostbratwurst since 1312. You can get 6,8,10 or 12 sausages served with a side of potato salad, sauerkraut (cabbage) or horseradish. The location is unbeatable — right by Saint Sebald Church and Old City Hall — which is super comfortable if you are looking for a place to eat after a day of explorations. In warmer months get a table outside, perfect for people-watching and listening to the church bells ringing. Telephone: 49 911 227695 Web: Behringer’s Bratwursthäusle

Schlemmer Eck  $10 & Under

Schlemmer Eck is the place to get your Drei im Weckla, or “three in a bun” translated loosely. Three Nuremberg sausages are stuffed inside a white round bun and finished off with some mustard. Schlemmer Eck is one of the most famous, locals-approved stands. That is their menu in its entirety which I find great. Schlemmer Eck does one thing and it does it perfectly well.  Web: Schlemmer Eck

Globo $11 – 30

The atmosphere is that of a fresh summer garden, with pots of greens hanging from the ceiling and strategically placed on every shelf and window-sill. The menu is modern, when possible organic, creative, and, most importantly, exciting. It’s one of those places where you take a bite of food and pause for a second to truly appreciate it.  Telephone: 49 911 25355515 Web: Globo

Best 5 Nuremberg Biergartens

Bier Werk

A nicely detailed beer bar for the beer lover/explorer. Not only with a large choice of beers, they also serve a few beer infused cocktails for the not so big beer drinkers. The bartender is very knowledgeable and ready to help you with your choice. The best thing is that they don’t have the standard beers but mostly high quality small brewers from near and far. Telephone: 49 911 47892114 Web: Bier Werk

WeissbierHex

Just the perfect place to drink beer! Great atmosphere and very friendly staff. Telephone: 49 911 2406646 TripAdvisor: WeissbierHex

Biergarten O’Sheas Irish Pub

Best Irish pub in Nuremberg hands down, great service, atmosphere, and food! Steak, fish ’n’ chips & burgers, plus whiskies & Irish beer, at a cellar pub with a river terrace. Telephone: 49 911 232895 Web: Biergarten O’Sheas Irish Pub

Hausbrauerei Altstadthof

I would suggest one thing, make sure to do the Rhine River Cruise.  There are many to choose from and you get such a great view with many experiences to remember.  Generally, you can find one that you can spend the day on or even just a half day.  But totally worth it!
