Rockport is a small coastal community surrounded by Aransas and Copano Bays on three sides. Don’t come here expecting to find a lot of spring breakers, as this area is more quiet and peaceful than many of the waterfront towns on the Texas Coast. The Rockport-Fulton area is well-known for the beautiful windswept Oaks that dot the landscape. Some of the other major attractions of Rockport are its thriving artist’s community, its great fishing, an award winning beach and one of the best birding areas in North America. Rockport Weather – Best Time to Visit
Visiting Rockport during the month of May when temperatures are still hot but hotels are more affordable is the best month. Temperatures hover in the low 80s, just a bit cooler than the average 85°F you would experience during high season. Most visit Rockport in the summer and this is the busiest season. You should also try avoiding the Memorial Day week (May 25th – 29th) and the July 4th Holiday week (June 29th to July 9th), as accommodations can be expensive during these dates. There are an average of 14 days with precipitation each month between August and October, so expect some rain if you go to Rockport during this season.

Copano Bay is a northwestern extension of Aransas Bay. It is an estuary, and this bay is home to a diverse ecosystem consisting of various birds including the endangered whooping crane, and numerous finfish including the redfish as well as shellfish such as oysters. Copano Bay serves as a nursery for shrimp, which attracts a large number of redfish. Abundant collections of black drum, flounder and trout, can also be found in the bay. Oysters grow in large numbers to form elongated reefs “oriented perpendicular to tidal flow” in the estuary. The reefs provide habitat for fish and sustenance for a wide variety of birds.
Rising above the Aransas Bay and surrounded by stately live oaks, Fulton Mansion State Historic Site is located in the resort area of Rockport-Fulton. Visitors get a rare glimpse into the life of an affluent family in the late 1800s as they journey through the restored home, a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark and listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Learn about George Fulton’s engineering skills, take a walk through Harriet Fulton’s gardens, and hear the stories of living in a grand Victorian villa. Located behind the mansion, the Education and History Center offers interactive exhibits and a gift shop.
The Lone Star State’s first designated Blue Wave Beach, Rockport Beach prides itself on its clean, crescent-shaped stretch of sand. Popular with families thanks to its calm and shallow water, Rockport Beach offers convenient amenities like numerous shaded picnic areas, grills, volleyball courts, playgrounds and a walking path.
