Looking for the best places to stay in Paros and Antiparos? Paros has been tagged as primarily a ferry hub in recent times. Yet Paros’ bustling capital with its ancient remains, the resort town of Naoussa and sweet rural villages are all the more charming for their relative lack of crowds, and there’s plenty to do, with good walks, plus excellent windsurfing, kite-surfing and diving.
Antiparos lies dreamily offshore from Paros. As soon as your ferry docks, there’s a distinct slowing down in the pace of things. The main village and port (also called Antiparos) are relaxed. There’s a touristy gloss around the waterfront and main street, but the village runs deep inland to quiet squares and alleyways that give way suddenly to open fields. Paros & Antiparos Weather (When to Visit)
Peak holiday season on Paros is from early July to the end of August, when temperatures are higher, crowds of foreigners and locals travel to the Greek islands. You won’t miss out on warm weather if you come in late May, June, September and early October which is an excellent time to visit. If resting, sightseeing or even cycling and hiking is the reason you visit Paros, then late Spring and early autumn is best since the temperature is very pleasant, and there is no traffic. In July and August; beaches, bars and nightclubs are at their busiest. And of course hotels will be booked solid.
Best Antiparos Beaches
Agios Georgios Beach
On the western side of the island, by the village of Agios Georgios and 11km from the main town, is this beautiful beach of the same name. It’s a sheltered bay looking out to the uninhabited island of Despotiko, and is the option for those looking for a more secluded beach. There are a couple of traditional restaurants nearby, and boat trips to Despotiko often depart from here.
This beach is one of the most popular on the island, and, with its bar, umbrellas and sunbeds for rent, is the most similar to that of the other more famous islands’ “party beaches.” It tends to attract young couples and locals, and fewer families with children, as the water is not as shallow and it has a few rocks. Those who don’t want to pay for the shade of the umbrellas, often find shade under the trees — but you have to get there early to get a spot.
This is really two beaches in one, Psaraliki I and Psaraliki II. Its central location (it’s a 5-minute walk from the port), shallow waters and shade from the trees attract families and those who enjoy water sports. It’s a fairly organized beach, so you have several options, from windsurfing to beach tennis. If you prefer to just sunbathe, there are sunbeds and umbrellas for rent, where you can lie as you watch the boats going between the island and neighboring Paros.
Facing the island of Paros, Glyfa is for those looking for a more off-the-beaten-path beach. It’s found in a southern, rural part of the island, about 6km from the main town, and remains calm and unspoiled, with golden sand and clear waters. That makes it a favorite of families, and an alternative to the more popular Psaraliki.
Sifneikos – Sunset Beach
The small beach of Sifneikos is named after the neighboring island is Sifnos, which can be seen in the distance. It has crystal-clear waters, but it can be windy, and on those windy days the calm waters can turn into waves. Its alternative name is “Sunset Beach,” as it’s the island’s best spot to watch the sunset.
Best Paros Beaches
This beach is particularly impressive because of the huge blocks of granite boarding it, sculpted into strange smooth shapes by the sea and the wind over the centuries. Small sandy coves are lining one after another, constituting the beach of Kolimbithres. Sun beds and umbrellas can be hired in some of the beaches and some water sports facilities are even available.
Parasporos is located south of Parikia, the capital of Paros, next to a campsite, which is the reason why it is often very crowded. It is a large beach with emerald waters and golden sand. A couple of beach bars are available on the beach and organize a few parties during summer time, with dancing and drinking all night long.
Golden Beach is considered to be one of the best beaches of Paros. Golden Beach (Chrissi Akti) is a long golden sandy beach famous by windsurfers for its ideal wind conditions. Every August the Professional Windsurfing World Cup is organized on this beach, gathering many windsurfing celebrities. Golden Beach is fully organized offering plenty of windsurfing facilities.
New Golden Beach
This long sandy beach is well known water sports and mostly for wind surfing. The beach is famous for the golden sand and the crystal water. There are many water sports centers that provide training for all ages. It is very well-organized with umbrellas, sundecks and bars offering food and drinks.
Santa Maria Beach
Santa Maria beach is great for snorkeling and there is also a diving school. The beach is long with some loungers, with a diving and windsurfing center. The water is perfect and clear and the sun drenched sand whiter than you will find on other parts of the island. You’ll fin sun beds, umbrellas and water sports facilities for windsurfing, scuba diving, paddle boats, etc.
