Monaco Travel Guide

Monaco is the world’s second-smallest country, only behind Vatican City. It has plenty to offer visitors and is known for its classic casino (Casino de Monte-Carlo), its royal family and the Formula One Monaco Grand Prix. Monaco’s most well-known area Monte Carlo, is luxury, from mega-yachts to designer stores, its all over-the-top glamour here. The city sits on the coast of southern France overlooking the beautiful Mediterranean Sea and is one of the premier destinations in Europe with its legendary luxury hotels, fine dining and rich history.

Monaco Weather – When to Visit

Situated between Italy and France on the Côte d’Azur, the Principality of Monaco enjoys more than 300 sunny days a year. Great climate, a variety of flora and fauna, and friendly smiling people are among its major attractions. From the deep blue of the Mediterranean to the beautiful white canyons, Monaco never fails to amaze.

The best time to visit Monaco is in the spring or fall. April and October are both ideal months for a vacation: the weather is balmy and the room rates are reduced. This lavish getaway loses some of its luster between November and March, but you will save money on accommodations if you visit in this cooler winter offseason. Visit in the summer, and yes, the beaches will be packed, the weather will be hot, and the restaurants will have long waits, but you’ll also experience Monaco at its liveliest.

Blue Gin looks beautiful. The view is magnificent, of course, but so are the food and the drinks! I’ll probably stay there for the whole month! Especially during sunset.

I love the sea, but, unfortunately, I don’t live close to a beach, so I’ll take advantage of it as much as I can. I’m going in a month, so probably, I won’t be able to swim, but oh well… at least I’m going!

I won’t be staying for a long time in Monaco, only 5 days, so I’ll try to do as much as I can. I’ve been in love with the French Riviera for as long as I can remember, so I’ll try the helicopter tour and if I can, the Monaco shore excursion.

Oh, it looks beautiful. I’m going to Monaco for Easter and I’m excited! I’m happy to read that it’s better to visit in spring than summer, because I was kind of disappointed that I had to go to spring – it wasn’t really my choice.

I’m definitely going to Larvotto beach. Not only because it’s beautiful – which it is – but also because I didn’t know there were artificial beaches. Now I have to see one up close!

I live on the beach, not that it is artificial, but all the sand was brought in from other areas.  Makes it seem a little artificial, but I still love it.  Please let me know how your vacation goes and where you end up going.

Wow, another awesome place. So one of my concerns has always been traveling to another country and do my own tour with my wife. Should I use a tour guide service or do you think I can make a good vacation on my own?  Also, is there a certain airport that I should use to plan my flight?

Thank you for the great information.

Hi Fred, it really depends on your preference.  Personally, I like to do my own thing instead of “group” tours.  I feel I can meander at my own pace, see what I want to see and move on when I am ready.  If it is a personal guided service not in a group, I do like that as well as I learn a lot of information I could not gain on my own.  The closest airport is going to be the Monaco Heliport.  Although you might find airfare cheaper to fly into Nice Côte d’Azur Airport.  I would check the airfare for both when you are making your travel plans.

Well I am lucky enough to say I’ve visited Monace and seen this amazing resort of a country. Of course, I was not able to enjoy it on my own yacht, but I had a great time visiting the Larvotto beach and enjoy the city historical center. The prices are really high for an average person so you have to be cautios where you are going to sit and have dinner or spend the night. However, I felt like million bucks so it was all worth it.

In my book, Monaco is synonymous with top glamour. I like to go shopping and also love the beach and Monaco has them both.

I have heard very good comments about Eze Beach. And I have also a big collection of pebbles I started gathering as a teenager, one for every beach I have visited. So I’ll definitely pick up one at Eze Beach.

That is pretty cool.  I kind of collect shells and stuff.  But if I see a cool rock or pebble, some neat driftwood, I gather it too.  I am running out of shells though.  They all look the same any more.  Perhaps I need to try collecting pebbles 🙂  Thanks for stopping by Ann.

Hey. Great post. I always wanted to go to Monaco, mainly because of the Grand Prix, just to be able to drive on the streets there where the circuit is would be a dream come true. After reading your post I have many more reasons I want to go. I did not know it was a country, I thought it was just a city in France. Thanks.

Yes, lots of people do think it is part of France.  You could visit both countries in one visit.  I think you will love it.  Just keep in mind that if you go during the Grad Prix, you will pay premium prices and it will be crowded.

Hi Leahrae, I really enjoyed reading your guide to Monaco. I watch the formula one Grand Prix there every year, but I think this would be a very expensive time to visit and also travel around the area would probably be difficult. If I ever did visit I would be travelling with my children. Do you think it would be a good place for them to visit? If so have you any recommendations for things to do in Monaco with children. Thanks, in advance, Andrew
