Jacksonville Weather – When to Visit
The best times to visit Jacksonville are from March to May and September to November. You will have pleasant weather, as well as fewer tourists and lower prices than the summer months. June through August is peak travel season in northeast Florida, with hot temperatures and plenty of sunshine drawing beach bums in droves. Winter, on the other hand, can see average temperatures drop into the 40s, driving visitors away and prices way down. If you’re looking for a deal, then plan on a cold-weather visit to Jacksonville.
Best Jacksonville Area Beaches
Atlantic Beach is a wide beach that attracts surfers, kayakers, sunbathers and cyclists, who come to enjoy a ride on the hard-packed sand along the shoreline. Find another lovely stretch of beach at Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park, which also has hiking trails to explore and a kids’ splash park just a short walk back from the beach.
Neptune Beach is a laid-back town with a beautiful length of white sand. The mile-long beach is ideal for a relaxing day out, whether you’re just wanting to rest on the sand or catch some waves. If you’re in the mood for some shopping or dining, head to Beaches Town Center, an outdoor mall at the north end of the beach with boutique shops, cafés and bars with live music.
Jacksonville Beach is the busiest of all the beaches in the area, with more than 3.7 miles of wide, sandy beach. The beach offers every activity you’d hope to find at the seaside including surfing, beach volleyball and several events and festivals through the year. Sheltered picnic areas and a seafront playground make Jacksonville Beach a great place for families.
Ponte Vedra Beach
Ponte Vedra Beach has a landscape of sand dunes, which at 40 ft tall are among the highest in Florida. The white-sand beach offers plenty of space to relax, sunbathe and stroll. Keep an eye out for shark’s teeth on this beach. There is plenty of shopping and dining choices as well.
Mayport Beach is well worth a visit even if you’re not a surfer, with its pristine sands offering a scenic place to unwind and enjoy the sea breezes. The Poles (surfing spot) are found within Hanna Park, with a small entry fee required to enter.
