Hampton Virginia Weather – When to Visit
The best time to visit Hampton Virginia is from late May to early September, when you’ll experience oceanfront culture in full swing. This is the peak season so the city and beach can get crowded during these months, plus room rates at beachfront hotels are generally higher between Memorial Day and Labor Day. For lower prices and relatively comfortable temps, arrive in spring (from March to mid-May) or fall (between mid-September and November). You can also save some coin if you visit in December, January or February, but you’ll need to bundle up.
Best Hampton Virginia Area Beaches
Buckroe Beach & Park
Buckroe Park has 3/4 of a mile of clean beach. Lifeguards are on duty Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. There’s a spacious nautical-themed playground to entertain the children and large restroom facilities with outdoor showers next to the playground.
Grandview Nature Preserve and Factory Point
Grandview Nature Preserve covers over 475 acres of salt marsh, tidal creeks, and Chesapeake Bay beachfront. The Preserve is a great location to beach comb, observe the migratory birds, for photography and fishing. You will need to obtain a saltwater fishing license from Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.
Surrounded by water on all sides, the Fort Monroe beaches extend for miles and offer some of the best views in all of the Chesapeake Bay. Outlook Beach, Fort Monroe’s public beach, is the perfect place for swimming, sunning, and relaxing, open sunrise to sunset.
Huntington Park Beach
Huntington Park Beach is located on the James River, so it’s not really a swimming beach, but it is an uncrowded spot close to the James River Bridge offering great views and stunning sunsets. It’s a place to bring chairs and some food and hang out with friends.
