Folegandros Weather – When to Visit
The weather here is dry, with a few rainfalls throughout the year. Expect hot, dry and windy summer days in Folegandros, ideal for enjoying lots of outdoors and water activities. Just keep in mind that there isn’t a lot of shade on the island, so bring a hat or umbrella if you need to get out of the sun.
Try to avoid the Greek islands during the hectic, tourist-filled months of July and August, when everything is crowded, reservations are a must and daytime temperatures are too hot for anything other than sitting still. April to mid-June are the nicest months to visit, with temperatures hovering between 70 F and 85 F. If you travel during the off-season (November through March), be prepared for harsh weather, rains and wind, which can offset ferry schedules to and from the island.
Folegandros Best Beaches
Agali beach is one of the most crowded beaches of the island. The beach is particularly busy in the summer months and needless to say, the tavernas here at this beach are open only during the summer months. The beach is ideal for swimmers.
This beach is perfect for swimming and the waters are crystal clear. This is one beach where you will find lots of trees that provide shade during the sweltering summer season. The beach is perfect for families. Karavostasi beach is close to numerous other beaches and offers a variety of alternative options for short day excursions.
Agios Georgios Beach
Agios Georgios beach is located to the northern part of the island. This beach is subject to strong winds and always first check the weather report of the day prior to visiting the beach. Agios Georgios is a fine sandy beach with crystalline blue water.
Ampeli is a relatively small beach in comparison to other beaches of the island and can be reached either by hired boats or by walking on foot. The beach has stunning views and sunsets which are well worth the visit.
This beach is a small rocky escape for those who hate crowds. This pebbled beach is located near the village of Ano Meria. It is almost completely preserved in its natural beauty and is perfect for those looking for a few moments alone.
