Corpus Christi has all the perks of a small Texan town — killer barbecue and Southern hospitality — and its location on the Gulf of Mexico, its picturesque marina and large downtown make it a locale worthy of a visit. Located in the South Texas Gulf Coast, Corpus Christi offers popular tourist attractions, a variety of hotels, cultural venues, great beaches, shopping and dining options and best of all— South Texas hospitality. Weather (Best Time to Go)
The best time to visit Corpus Christi is from September to February. Corpus Christi weather is mainly subtropical in summer, with average temperatures of 90ºF, making it the most popular season. But do expect many windy days as Corpus Christi rivals Chicago or Dodge city as the windiest city in the States. Winter temperatures may drop to the 40ºF-50ºF, but the average temperature is significantly higher. This region is a well-known “snow bird” refuge, involving hundreds of thousands of residents of northern U.S. states and Canada. Spring and the Summer weather and temperatures are typically agreeable, but spring sea-water temperatures may not be inviting for swimming. Autumn months are an excellent period for those who want to fish and low hotel rates. Autumn’s first weeks can be great for beach goers and for more inexpensive accommodations. Summer and Spring Break aren’t a good option for anyone who wants low hotel prices and low-crowded places. In the winter months, many people from the Northern States migrate to Corpus Christi region to avoid the cold weather northern states (golf, surf, bird watching and fishing are popular winter activities) but if you want to fully enjoy the Texan sea and beach life, avoid winter (air and water temperatures will be too low).
Things Not to Miss
There are five, self-guided tour routes covering 100,000 square feet and eleven decks. If you have questions, you can ask any “yellow shirt” volunteer, many of whom actually served aboard Lexington. Take a self guided tour and prepare for battle as the pilots did in the Ready Room, inspect historic aircraft on the flight and hangar decks, tour the Admirals Quarters and Engine room and relive the last-ditch Japanese kamikaze campaign. You will learn this and much more about the ship, the people and the times of WWII. It’s a patriotic lesson unparalleled in this day and age. Contact them at 361-888-4873 or visit USS Lexinton.
