Marathon is a great stop before going to key west or if you want to fish or do activities. KW isn't a great destination for that. Marathon is much quieter but also closes early.
I'd much rather stay in Marathon for a longer part and do an overnight in KW.

Went to Bahia Honda State Park - beaches were ok.
Went to Bahia Honda State Park - beaches were ok. They offer paddle boarding and kayak rental there. went on several trails, which were nice. Went on the old 7 mile bridge (cloudy day), but didn't get to see sunrise. Drove out to see mini deers and got to see a glimpse of one (it was not near sunset or sunrise, which is the time they recommend you go to see them).

The place was definitely NOT a resort.
The place was definitely NOT a resort. Very run down, pool was nasty and cloudy and the place doesn’t look nor feel clean. Tons of construction during the week and rather terrible if I wanted to sit outside and enjoy that “water view “ which was, not much of a Waterview. It’s a canal in between two concrete walls. Paid too much for such a not so great motel at best!
It was crazy good!! My wife and I are coffee fanatics and they had keurig coffee maker in the room.. So I went down to get stronger coffee pods mentioning that I brought my own coffee.. 4 hours later they show up with a brand new quizenart coffee maker In the Box. The superintendent said yeah I like my coffee too so when you said that I felt like I should bring you this. Not to mention the beach to pool the bar and restaurant all on premises. Our next trip to the keys will be the Glunz as well.
Fantastic location! We loved the private secluded beach. The room was nicely updated and furnished with everything we needed. The balcony of our room was spacious and comfortable, and amazingly close to the water. Just beautiful! The included breakfast was very good and the view while dining at The Hideaway is hard to beat. We have stayed in several upscale resorts and hotels that didn’t have as good of service and as attentive a staff as we did here. We would definitely stay at Rainbow Bend again.
Very kind staff (including the sweetest dog). When we arrived it was raining, so the guy at the reception changed our cottage, giving us one with an internal bathroom (so we don't have to go out in case of rain). Spacious cottage equipped with everything you need. Marathon is an island in the Keys that's more in length than width, but the cottages are about halfway in a great location. A stone's throw from the sea. Recommended, would go back.
The central keys location makes it a great location for visiting all of the keys. We wanted to visit Key West but we did not want to stay there due to the cost & large crowds. Key West is just 50 miles away which makes it an easy drive for a day trip. The staff at the Sea Dell Motel far exceeded our expectations. They accomodated our parking with a boat trailer & were helpful with suggestions for local restaurants & attractions.
My family of six stayed here over a long weekend. The breakfast was delicious and individually made. We took advantage of both of the pools, which were clean. The one next to the marina has food and drink service pool side and good happy hour specials. We also used the washer and dryer located in the same building as the restaurant. The hotel is a good jumping off location for exploring Marathon and Bahai Honda.
The location is ideal for those that don't wish to go all the way to Key West. The hotel has many amenities, which we didn't use because we only stayed for one night, but also due to COVID measures (see the dislikes). Room was comfortable and clean, and rather quite despite facing the highway. Close by there's the amazing Sombrero Beach which was much nicer than the ones we visited in Key West.
Classy and peaceful resort. We had a room with a sea view and it was bliss to sit out on the sun trap balcony in the morning. Our stay coincided with a cold snap so the spa pool was very welcome! Also enjoyed going for cocktails at the on site bar and loved the hotel cat which one day miaowed outside our door! (But understandably they aren't allowed in the rooms so I had to go out to it!)
Location was great! Beautiful grounds. Butterfly Cafe was Excellent but pricy. Nice deck and balcony on each unit. Marathon is good central point if you are traveling further to key west for day trip/sightseeing. Parking was free and in front of the unit. Good place to stay as We were celebrating our 35th wedding Anniversary 🥰
I liked our room and the bed was comfortable. This was our first time to Marathon and Blackfin resort and it's a nice surprise when you realise your place on the highway is also your place on the water from the other side. The sunsets were great. It was only a few minutes by car to most restaurants.
On the beach, no walks to sit in front of the ocean. Close restaurant with live music and very good food but the music does not disturb so you can sleep very well, no noises around. Very nice swimming pool. The coffee served at the reception has good options and can be eaten in front the beach.
it’s got the local but also retro vibe nothing fancy, but more than adequate. it’s the type of place you can picture Jimmy Buffet writing about in his songs and what I would think the keys were like 30 years ago before the big chain hotels started sprouting up.
Good Location, good price, hotel is on the water with boat ramp , boat slips , laundry facilities( washer/dryer) , pool, kayaks, paddle boards, grills to cook food, amazing friendly staff, garden hose to wash bugs off truck, nice grab and go breakfast
I would give this amazing property 11 points out of 10. Clearly undervalued and absolutely hidden gem in Florida Keys. Totally recommended and we are coming back next year with other family members.
On The Water and great location! Great staff!! Charlotte and Lady and Manny are great valued staff for this hotel! Great housekeeping staff and Rosa is very good cleaning rooms!!!
The room was nice, bed was comfortable.
We enjoyed the pool area in the evening. Sparkeys Restaurant (right behind the hotel) has a fun and casual vibe for your vacation
great location mid keys, easy drive to key west for day trip. On the water at marathon, good outdoor facilities. rooms comfortable and staff very friendly. good value
The location. We love staying in Marathon since it is half way in the keys. This was our second stay. it is very family friendly and the staff are great.
